In Adobe Photoshop, The most important part is the shortcuts. Every shortcut you do can cut off time you waste trying to find the next tool you need. For example, if you're trying to get from the paintbrush(B) to the quick selection tool(W) It's better to just use the shortcuts instead of going all the way up the toolbar a bunch of time to go back and forth between the tool.
You also need to know how to combine different tools to your liking. The best way to get used to your controls is to use them in combinations. Now depending on how you use photoshop, destructive or non-destructive, your combinations will be longer or shorter. Say I want to get rid of the background of a picture I looked good in. I would use the quick selection tool to select the background. Then I would delete it and replace it with something else that fits my liking. Now that's only what I would do for the destructive way. The only way I would ever do this is if I need a fast way to finish a project in class. To be honest, I barely even do that ever. The safest way to do it is to do it is to use the quick selection tool to select the background. Then I would quick mask it so it looks like its gone. Lastly, The way you put your layers is very important. If you just start throwing in layers randomly placed, then its going to be aggravating when you have to rearrange things so you can get a good look at everything on each layer. These tips are mainly for one thing...Time! Time is so crucial that people want to meet the deadline but don't want it to be sloppy. When you have these basics down, it can save you a whole lot of it.
